Setting High Safety Standards Since 1844

The health and safety of our employees is of paramount importance to Blakeslee Arpaia Chapman. Safety is a crucial aspect of construction, where often the hazards and risks are unexpected. Blakeslee trains employees to be prepared for what can occur on a job site. We recognize the importance of preventing occupationally induced injuries and illness through training, responsibility, and open communication between employees. A formal safety program is managed by the Director of Safety, J. David Schill, who works closely with project superintendents and foremen. In turn, each superintendent and foreman is responsible for understanding, implementing, and communicating the formal safety program to the rest of the crew. Our annual goal is to have zero lost time accidents, which we have accomplished in 1999, 2000, 2003 and 2007.

"Safety and health in our business must be a part of every operation. Therefore, the prevention of occupationally induced injuries is given precedence over operating productivity at any costs." states Roger Chapman, Blakeslee's owner and President.

Blakeslee communicates safety by:
• daily tailboard talks with crew
• comprehensive safety program
• periodic chiropractor visits to the jobsite
• annual training programs
